According to Variety, Rodríguez will direct and produce Ugly Dolls, the film adaptation of the popular line of toys for young people, for STX Entertainment. The film will include all of Uglydoll’s main characters, including Wage, Babo, Ice-Bat and Wedgehead.
The film has been in development at STX since 2015 and will soon reach the animation division. However, to see it in theaters we will still have to wait a bit: until May 10, 2019. More than a year separates us from that date yet.
Rodriguez is also negotiating his possible participation as a director in the remake of Rescate in New York (the original was by John Carpenter). But at the moment there is nothing sure. The executive producer will be Carpenter himself along with Neil Cross, creator of the series Luther, in charge of the script. Given that there is still time, we will be attentive to what new developments arise around this adaptation of the toy line and what details in terms of participating artists are in the coming months.
